Club Helpers

Athletics Victoria hosts many events throughout the year and we would not be able to provide the events to the current standards without the support of our volunteers, the Club Helpers.

The Club Helper Program allocates clubs to specific events and tasks. It is the club’s decision how these tasks are allocated between their members. We have some tips & tricks for you below to assist with fulfilling your club helper duties!

Create a culture of volunteerism

  1. Update your club code of conduct to include a compulsory completition of one club helper duty: this reduces the burden on your consistent volunteers and encourages a culture of support!
  2. Allocate each club member a week in which they have to provide a club helper: this may mean that they complete the duty themselves, or they may find a relative or friend to complete it for them.
  3. Formally and informally acknowledge your club helpers: recognises a Volunteer of the Year at your awards night each year, connect with local businesses for sponsorship opurtunities (eg. ask your local coffee shop to support your club and provide a free coffee/cake voucher for your best volunteer each month), give them a shout out on social media for the effort they put in.

Recruit volunteers from outside your club

  1. Advertise for volunteers at your closest school or community group: consider using Canva to create fliers and promotional material.
  2. Advertise on Sports People for Volunteers: adversiting is free for volunteer roles – https://www.sportspeople.com.au/jobs/terms

Provide support to new volunteers

  1. Let your regular volunteers teach new volunteers how to fulfil their roles
  2. Have a designated Volunteers Coordinator at your club: Check out the role desciption available on the Club Help website
  3. Share the role descriptions with your club:

Upskill your current volunteers
