We are back at St Anne’s Winery for the Ekiden Relay!
We have updated the course this year with a new location for the Start/Finish & Club Marquee Area which will now be located below the Tasting & Function Rooms. The course has been redesigned and we are venturing into parts of the St Annes property we haven’t used before. The distances of the legs for some age groups have changed, but like previous years, there are six different courses each with their own colour & distance. Lengths vary between 4.2km and up to 8.6km. Not all Divisions & Age groups will be contesting the same legs, so please see the Team Size & Individual Leg Distance Matrix in the Event Information below.
With sweeping landscapes and beautiful scenery, St Anne’s Myrniong promises to offer participants the opportunity to play their part in the club relay, followed by a well-deserved aperitif by enjoying the best of the venue’s local produce afterwards. Coffee, snacks, pizza, paella, it’s all happening this weekend. And if you’re keen to grab a table post (or pre?!) race, contact St. Anne’s by calling +61 3 5368 7209.
COURSE UPDATE – 16/08/24
Due to unsafe surface of the course the ORANGE leg of the course has been altered from previously published. The course will now follow the GREEN course, but will turn around at a shorter distance.
The section of the GREEN & ORANGE courses from Marshal Point 9 to Marshal Points 10 & 12 will be a two-way section of the course due to access to the adjacent paddocks.
Please be careful in this area as runners will be running in both directions. Please keep to your left of the laneway in this area.
Team Managers can request an invoice from Athletics Victoria by completing the request form if they wish to make payment via a direct debit – CLICK HERE TO REQUEST INVOICE
Athletics Victoria staff process invoice request forms manually, please allow 2 working days to receive the invoice.
Provisional Timetable
This is the draft timetable only and it may change dependant on the number of entries received. A provisional timetable will be posted once all entries have been finalised
Team Size & Individual Leg Distances Matrix
The downloadable file below sets out the number of runners & the individual Leg Distances. There are 6 courses again this year ranging from 8.6km to 4.2km (these are approx. distances). Each course is colour coded and is a different distance.
Course signage will be placed at certain points around the course to assist athletes in following the correct path. They will correspond with the colour bib each athlete is wearing – please take note of them as you traverse the course.
Warming up on the driveway of St Anne’s Winery (and the public road outside) is prohibited. Please keep away from those areas for everyone’s safety.

There is parking on site at St Anne’s Winery, to be directed by the local CFA. Please follow their directions, and note that parking closest to the winery buildings will be reserved for winery patrons. CFA is obliged to keep wait lines from forming on the freeway, so if you are asked to do a loop of Garrard’s Lane before entry, or are directed to enter quickly, please show as much patience as possible. Athletics Victoria is not responsible for any incidents which may occur.
Please note that marquee drop off will be permitted up until 11:00am only. After that time vehicles will be unable to approach the club marquee area.
Bibs
Bibs: In the 2024/25 season, there will be no cloth bibs issued. We are committed to reducing our footprint on the environments we use. Your new timing bibs are now made from hardier material, designed to last the whole season – use them for both XCR and track! So please ensure you care for your bibs, e.g. do not machine wash, do not fold. Lost or damaged bibs will incur a new bib fee.
*All athletes are required to wear two Athletics Victoria competition bibs; one with an affixed timing chip must be pinned to the front of the athlete’s competition uniform, the other to the back.
Teams are expected to return all relay bibs and electronic timing tags upon conclusion of their race. Please note that an $80 replacement fee will be invoiced to the club for any electronic timing tags not returned.
As we move toward a more electronic way of staging XCR relay events, the burden on officials and clubs will begin to decrease. For this meet, clubs will be required to supply helpers as per the club duty roster, however will no longer need to provide timekeepers for each team. Nevertheless, we will require some additional assistance to cover gaps on the day.
Team managers are now required to complete the team sheet online via ResultsHub. Clubs are encouraged to submit this prior to completion of competition to allow the timely presentation of medals and publication of results. Teams that have not submitted their athletes will not score points until these have been submitted. If unable to submit via ResultsHub, printed team sheets will be provided to be completed on the day.

Spikes/No Spikes
St. Anne’s Winery is a mixture of undulating pastureland and pathways. There are rocks close to the surface in places, and at times hard packed/rocky tracks to negotiate. It’s best to bring both spikes and runners, and check the leg you will be running beforehand before making your choice.
Club Marquees
Clubs are encouraged to bring club tents to the Ekiden Relay; these can be set up in the section of the park that will be roped off by AV for clubs.
Please note: Athletics Victoria hold the right to ask clubs to lower or pack up marquees to meet our risk management responsibilities.
