Athletics Victoria and the Sport Delivery Team have been working these last few months exploring viable options for a return to competition in 2020.
Following an earlier statement to our members on Wednesday 17th June 2020, the Sport Delivery Team are excited to announce a return to XCR competition for participants 18 years and under. For this XCR round only, athletes whom are 18 as at the 31st December 2020 will be permitted to compete in the U18 age group category in order to provide and encourage participation.
Subject to any changes on conducting competition by State and Federal Government, Athletics Victoria will return to competition on Saturday 11th July 2020 at Sandown Raceway for the Victorian All Schools Road Relays and AV Youth Road Relays. Please be advised that the date and venue has been selected on the grounds of venue availability within the state of Victoria.
In light of the easing of restrictions, there is no limit to the number of participants, although there will be restrictions to the number of spectators permitted to the venue. More information on spectator access will be provided in the final event briefing packs.
Entries for the Victorian All Schools Road Relays and AV Youth Road Relays on the 11th July 2020 will open today (Thursday 18th June) and teams can enter via the AV portal. More information can be found on the winter and schools season event pages.
For this event (AV Youth Relays) only, AV is waiving the requirement for 18 years and under club competitors to have paid their AV Membership. It means that AV Clubs can select participants for their Youth teams, and the individual will not be required to join AV. It also means that AV will not be collecting Club Fees for these members. This is an opportunity for clubs to promote ‘come and try’ and engage with local communities to participate.
For the winter walks schedule and for adults returning to competition, more information will be forthcoming in due course. Please stay tuned for further updates.
We look forward to welcoming you back.
Kind Regards
Ross Cunningham
