The 2023 Australian Half Marathon Championships will be conducted on Sunday 13th August 2023 at Alexandra Headlands Surf Club, Sunshine Coast, Queensland – which forms part of the Sunshine Coast Marathon.
Athletics Victoria can select up to six (6) male and six (6) female representatives with the top three finishers in each team scoring points towards their state team result. The first three eligible men and women to finish the Half Marathon will be presented with Australian Championship medals. Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will also be presented in the men’s and women’s teams’ competition.
1. SELECTION CRITERIA
1.1 Eligibility
– The 2023 Australian Half Marathon Championships is open to all athletes who are registered with an Athletics Victoria-affiliated club and meet the Athletics Australia rules for National competition.
–To be eligible for an Australian Championship, athletes without permanent Australian residency must have been registered as a competing member with an Athletics Victoria club for a minimum of two years.
1.2 Half Marathon Qualification Standard
NB: All athletes must meet the qualification standard to be selected for this Championship.
Women: 1:30:00
Men: 1:25:00
1.3 Selectors Discretion
The Selectors will have the final say on the composition of the team and will take into consideration aspects such as head to head performances, consistency of performance, injury status and support for the ON XCR’23 series.
In deciding the remaining members of the team, the selectors will take into account performances by athletes in ON XCR’23 rounds already completed, including relays.
2. SELECTION PROCESS
2.1 Nomination for Selection
Athletes interested in nominating must email Tom Gamble tom.gamble@athsvic.org.au the following information:
- Name
- Gender
- DOB
- Club Name
- AV Bib Number
- Mobile
- Relevant performances since 1st January 2022 (time, performance event, performance date)
2.2 Entries Close
All nominations must be received by 12pm on Monday 3rd July 2022
For the 2023 Championships, all athletes must enter themselves with the Entry Code by 12 noon on Thursday 6th July.
2.3 Announcement of the team
The representative team, plus reserves, will be announced by Wednesday 6th July 2023. All applicants will be advised of team selection by email and provided Entry Codes to enter themselves into the event, via the event website.
3. ASSISTANCE PACKAGES
All State, and Territory MA’s are invited to send up to six (6) male and six (6) female athletes to contest the 2023 Australian Half Marathon Championship. The following assistance packages will be available.
– Free race entry to all nominated Member Association selected team members (all 6 athletes)
– Use of the Elite Athlete facilities on race day (all 6 athletes)
– An elite start at the front of the field (all 6 athletes)
– One night’s twin share accommodation (top 3 ranked athletes)
– Ground transport to the start line (if applicable – top 3 ranked athletes)
– Facility access into/out of Event venue for the athlete briefing (all 6 athletes)
4. UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS
Team members will be required to wear the current Victorian competition uniform.
For those who already have the competition uniform we ask that you wear it both while competing and for presentations.
Additional uniform items, may be purchased through Athletics Victoria’s uniform supplier, Project Clothing.
