As set out in the release earlier today, Athletics Australia and its member associations have agreed to suspend all events/competitions until 1 May however, in Victoria, due to the nature of our cross country season, the suspension of competition will be extended to 31 May. If circumstances change before then, we will look at alternate options subject to available dates and venues.
The postponement of the XCR20 Seasons means that XCR 20 may be rescheduled to be either an 8 or 6 round competition which will be dependent upon the government revising the current restrictions on non- essential gatherings and social distancing. What this looks like is still a work in progress and the AV Competitions Team are currently working through the specific details and will provide a revised calendar of events once revised approvals, permits and dates can be confirmed.
We have also received numerous enquiries on Club activities, coach training and general use of athletics facilities.
If you have a scheduled Club competition sanctioned by Athletics Victoria or Athletics Australia, then it will be postponed.
If your Club conducts its own events or activities, these are currently not prohibited however please ensure that you comply with the government restrictions on both outdoor and indoor non-essential gatherings and more importantly social distancing. Social distancing is ensuring that you remain at least 1.5 metres away from another person. Please also follow the hygiene requirements and ensure there is access to materials for hand washing.
Training and Facilities
This does not restrict training however we recommend you contact Venue Management and/or the Local Council to confirm if there are any additional restrictions on training at your track or local park. Again, the government’s requirements on non-essential outdoor gatherings will apply along with social distancing. Coaches are also reminded to make sure they continue to take a positive role in the enforcement of government requirements.
I have also included a statement from Minister Colbeck from SportAus which has some links to government information. See it here.
While the information is forever changing, if you are unable to find a specific answer about a club activity and/or event that you are running complete your assessment based on the governments restrictions on non-essential gatherings outdoors (500 people) and non-essential gatherings indoors (100 people) AND social distancing by maintaining at least 1.5m away from another individual. Restrict contact by handshakes and hugging, and if at any time someone shows symptoms, please make sure they seek immediate medical advice.
I hope this helps navigate through what is a challenging time.
My best to all.
