2019/20 Track & Field Awards

Following completion of the 2019/20 Summer Season, Athletics Victoria would like to recognise the achievements of Victorian track & field athletes. In doing so, a new awards series has been established to acknowledge those athletes who display athletic excellence in their pursuit of a Victorian Track & Field Championship. Athletics Victoria would like to congratulate the recipients of the Performance of the Victorian Track & Field Championship award.

Eligibility for Awards:

To be eligible for a Performance of the Victorian Track & Field Championships award, an athlete must:

  1. Hold an Athlete membership with Athletics Victoria and one of its affiliate clubs.
  2. Compete at a Victorian Track & Field Championship including the Victorian Track & Field (Open, Junior and/or Masters), Multi Event, Mile, 100 yard or 5000m Championship, or Zatopek (The Victorian 10,000m Championship).
  3. Achieve a Victorian title.

Selection Criteria for Awards:

The following criteria have been used to decide the recipients of the Performance of the Victorian Track & Field Championship award.

Open:

An athlete’s Championship winning performance will be checked against the Australian and/or Victorian records. Any sole athlete who attains an Australian/Victorian record will be deemed the winner (Australian record to be held in higher regard).

In the case of a tie, athlete’s performances will be assigned a score using the corresponding IAAF scoring tables. The athlete/s with the highest points score will be deemed the winner.

If no records are broken, all Championship winning performances will be assigned a score using the corresponding IAAF scoring tables. The athlete/s with greatest IAAF points score will be deemed the winner.

Junior:

An athlete’s Championship winning performance will be checked against the Australian and/or Victorian records. Any sole athlete who attains an Australian/Victorian record will be deemed the winner (Australian record to be held in higher regard). Any athlete who achieves multiple age records with a single performance will be held in higher regard.

In the case of a tie, athlete’s performances will be adjusted to an equivalent open level using the WMA adjustment factors and then assigned a score using the corresponding IAAF scoring tables. The athlete/s with the highest points score will be deemed the winner.

If no records are broken, all Championship winning performances will be adjusted to an equivalent open level using the WMA adjustment factors. Each performance will be assigned a score using the corresponding IAAF scoring tables. The junior athlete/s with the greatest IAAF points score will be deemed the winner.

Masters*:

An athlete’s Championship winning performance will be adjusted to an equivalent open level using the WMA adjustment factors. Each performance will be assigned a score using the corresponding IAAF scoring tables. The masters athlete/s with the greatest IAAF points score will be deemed the winner.

*Following cancellation of the 2020 Victorian Masters Track & Field Championships, the Masters Male and Female Performance of the Victorian Track & Field Championships have not been awarded in 2019/20.

Para:

Athletes will be compared using the MDS percentage score attributed to their respective performance. The para athlete/s with the highest individual percentage will be deemed the winner.

Note:

  • For junior awards, athlete performances will be adjusted based upon the age group in which they attained their Victorian title.
  • For masters awards, athlete performances will be adjusted using the lowest age factor in that age group. Eg. Athletes competing in 45-50 will have their performances adjusted as a 45 year old.
