Level 2 Intermediate Recreational Running Coach

Level 2 Intermediate Recreational Running Coaching Course – Course Fee $250 ($220 for current AV Members)

This ONE DAY course is designed to introduce coaches to the fundamental technical and strategic skills and programming for runners in training for 3km through to marathon events.

The course covers training and preparing a group that has varied skill levels from Novice through to competitive club runners.

Pre requisites for the course are either the Athletics Australia Level 1 Community Athletics Coach course or Cert 3 or 4 in Fitness.  

Those registered with Fitness Australia will receive 7 CEC points on completion of this course

Level 1 Run Leader

Level 1 Run Leader is an entry point for recreational running group leaders and aimed at those who want to start assisting Level 2 Recreational Running Coaches in delivering their sessions.

This course is one of the pre requisites for entry into the Level 2 Intermediate Recreational Running Coach Course as is Level 1 Community Athletics Coach.

This course qualifies you as a Recreational Run Leader and you gain access to the benefits of coach membership with Athletics Australia. 

Course fee is $250*.  This includes your first year of coach registration.

Level 2 Advanced Jumps

Course and Resources Fee: $385

This Two Day Level 2 Advanced Coach course gives coaches the opportunity to specialise in jumps. In addition to further exploring the technical model of jumps, the basics of body weight (strength and) conditioning, skill acquisition, inclusive coaching and program planning taught.

Pre work and self stufy modules will be sent out after participants are registered.

For those who are current Level 3 or have already completed Level 2 Advanced Part A please email lisa@athsvic.org.au to just register for day 2 Part B Jumps only.

Level 2 Advanced Part B Jumps

Course Fee for Part B only – $192.50 Part A must be completed before Part B. Please also register for Part A if you have not yet completed that course.

This is the second Part of the Level 2 Advanced qualification in the event group of Jumps. 

To undertake Level 2 Advanced – Part B Jumps, you must already have completed Level 2 Advanced Part A or Level 3.

This event group focuses on developing your coaching skills in the areas of Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump and introduces you to coaching Pole Vault.

This course is a mix of practical and theory and offers a variety of skills and drills to develop the technical model in all Jump events.

This course is ideal for those wishing to specialise in the area of jumps and working with athletes aged 12 and up.

Pre requisite for this course is to be Level 2 Intermediate Club coach, as well as having already completed Level 2 Advanced Part A, or be a Level 3 coach in another event group.

Level 2 Advanced Part B Middle and Long Distance

Course Fee for Part B only – $192.50 If you are completing both Part A & B please register for the full course

This is the second Part of the Level 2 Advanced qualification in the event group of Middle and Long Distance. 

To undertake Level 2 Advanced – Part B Middle and Long Distance, you must already have completed Level 2 Advanced Part A or Level 3.

This event group focuses on developing your coaching skills in the areas of 800m + and steeple chase events.

This course is a mix of practical and theory and offers a variety of skills and drills to develop the technical model in all middle and long distance events.

This course is ideal for those wishing to specialise in the area of Middle and Long distance and working with athletes aged 12 and up.

Pre requisite for this course is to be Level 2 Intermediate Club coach, as well as having already completed Level 2 Advanced Part A, or be a Level 3 coach in another event group.

Level 2 Intermediate Club Coach Course

Course and Resources Fee – $330

8:30am – 5:30pm both days

Pre requisite for this course is Level 1 Community Athletic Coach.

The Level 2 Intermediate Club Coach Course is the next step on from Level 1 Community Athletics Coach course.  It is designed to develop fundamental skills and drills, and understanding of the basic technical models for the events required for participation in athletics at club and school competition. The event groups covered include:

• Sprints & relays
• Hurdles
• Middle & Long Distance up to 5000m – excluding steeple chase
• Jumps – excluding pole vault
• Throws – excluding hammer
• Race-walking

In addition the course introduces you to the next level of session planning and programming, as well as the principles of training.

All participants must complete the online module prior to the practical component of the course, login to the online learning portal can be found here. Set up an account and password and complete PBTR Child Protection and Discrimination & Harassment 

Level 1 Run Leader

Level 2 Advanced Part A

On this link you are registering for Level 2 Advanced Event Group Specific Part A –  this is the first part of a two part course.

Level 2 Advacned Event Group Specific is delivered in two parts – Part A and Part B.  The full course has the following requirements:

Course Length: 4 Hours Pre-Course Work + 16 Hours Face-to-Face (Practical and Theory) + 6 Hours Post-Course Work

Pre-requisites Part A: Current holder of Level 2 Intermediate Club Coach and have held this qualification for 12 months. 

Pre-requisities Part B: Level 2 Advanced Coach Part A or accredited at Level 3 or above

Pathways: Successful participants are eligible to apply for Level 3 IAAF Coach courses. 

Cost: $192.50

Course Details

The ‘Level 2 Advanced Coach’ level of accreditation gives coaches the opportunity to begin to specialise in either ‘Sprints, Relays, & Hurdles,’ ‘Middle & Long Distance,’ ‘Jumps,’ ‘Throws,’ or ‘Race Walking.’ The course comprises of two days of face-to-face training in addition to pre-course and post-course assessment. 

The course is divided between Part A (day one) and Part B (day two) of face-to-face learning. Part A is for all event groups and covers topics including the essence of coaching, development & maturation, general conditioning, skill acquisition, inclusive coaching, planning and evaluating progress. Part B is event-group specific and covers the coaching and technical analysis of your chosen event group.
