Timing Bibs:

Athletes will have their 2019/20 AV bib numbers available for collection at St Anne’s.

The timing tag will be attached to one of the bibs (this is to be worn on the front). Athletes do not need to wear their timing chip from previous seasons for individual races anymore.

Please Note: This is your bib number for the entire XCR’19 season, please do not throw out your number with the timing tag attached to it. If athletes lose or damage their bib numbers there will be a charge associated with reissuing new numbers. All athletes MUST wear their current AV bibs, front and back (timing bib on the front and cloth number on the back), at all individual rounds of XCR’19. If an athlete fails to wear both bibs they may be disqualified. If any athletes forget their bibs please go to the administration area to purchase a replacement set no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of the race. Team managers will need to pick up any new memberships from the administration tent on the day of the event.

REMEMBER NO BIBS = NO TIME

Events: All events will start at the time listed above, please arrive early as the start will not be held for athletes who are running late.

In the Open Men & Women’s races the Premier Division team athletes (6 men & 5 women) from the 10 clubs in each gender will be eligible for a priority start in their respective races. Athletes are asked to make their way to the front of the pack before the race. Please speak to the officials on the day if athletes are unsure about this process.

If an athlete fails to make their event start time, please go to the AV Administration tent to seek advice on joining another race as an invitational athlete for no points. The competition director is the only person who can approve an athlete changing races on the day of the event.

Event warm-up is not to be conducted in front of the start line. Athletes are not allowed to front filter into this area, they MUST approach the start from behind the line. Any athletes caught front filtering may be asked to move to the back of the pack by officials.

The 2019 Victorian All Schools championships will be held in conjunction with this round of XCR. All athletes competing in the U14 – U18 age groups will compete for their school, please note these athletes MUST have registered to compete in this event prior to the June 3 entry closing deadline (XCR Packages do not cover this event for these age groups). Under 20 athletes will compete for both their school and club if both of these apply to those who have entered. Medals for this age group will be awarded to the first three Athletics Victoria members in the XCR’19 Rd 3 event and the first three placegetters in the 2019 Victorian All Schools event also.

Selection Criteria

POLICY OF SELECTION

There will be an Athletics Victoria Selection Committee established to carry out the selection of the Victorian Cross Country team

The selection committee will operate under the selection policy listed, making amendments where deemed necessary to maintain the best interests of Athletics Victoria and to remain in line with any changes drafted by Athletics Australia.

The AV Selection Committee and Athletics Victoria will have final say over selection, appeals will be directed through State Teams manager Sean Whipp: sean@athsvic.org.au

Selection Criteria

  1. Representative age group teams for the Australian Cross Country Championships are under 14, under 16, under 18 and under 20 (as at 31 December 2019) for boys and girls, with 16 male & female athletes selected per gender, per age group.
  2. The Victorian Cross Country Championships on June 15th (Bundoora Park) will be the selection trial for this team, athletes who do not compete at this event will not be considered for selection, unless qualifying criteria detailed in point 5 are met.
  3. It is necessary to submit the nomination form, completed on the laptops available at the Athletics Victoria tent located near the finishing line, to be considered for selection. Athletes will only be considered for the AV team if they have completed the nomination form. In the unusual case that an age group has insufficient nominations to fill an age group bracket of 16 athletes, the next best placed athlete will be contacted.
  4. Thirty-two athletes will be selected for each age group, 16 male, 16 female. Selection is determined by athlete finishing order, thus if the first 16 athletes to cross the line in a race select to represent AV, those 16 individuals will be selected if appropriate selection documentation is completed.
  5. Athletes who are unable to compete at the trial due to illness or national representation will need to provide a written application with supporting documentation to be considered. The athlete will also need to have competed in a minimum of one AV XCR19 event to be considered for selection.
  6. All selections will be confirmed via email/AV website on Thursday, June 20th
  7. Emergencies will be named and offered places in the team if/when any selections are declined.
