AV Shield Final 2018/19

General Information

The 2018/19 Shield Final is here and will be held across a big day on the 23rd of February

Event Entries:
Please ensure you check the entry list as not all athletes received their time preference due to the number of requests for certain event times.

The 1500m Mens is being held at 12:30pm and the Womens is being held at 2:15pm.


Competition Information

Please Note: Changes to field event time slots (only if spots are available) can be made up until Thursday 21st February at 5pm. Please email craig.wallace@athsvic.org.au with the change of entry. Any substitutions after this time will need to be made on the day. Please refer to substitution ruling below for more information. 

Field Event Attempts: 
In all field events (excluding PV) athletes will only be given three (3) attempts. There will be no extra throws or jumps for the elite groups due to time constraints.

In Pole Vault competitions, jumpers will be permitted to jump until they are eliminated by posting three (3) consecutive fouled attempts up until the maximum height as specified by their time slot.

Clash of Events: 
If an athlete has a clash of event, they will need to notify the official at their first event that they need to marshal for their next event.

Athletes cannot compete twice in the same event at the Shield Final.

Athletes do not need to check in for their events at Shield Final. Only substitution forms via the team manager will be accepted if athletes cannot take part.

Call Room: 
There is no Call Room at Shield Final. Athletes will marshal at their event site 15mins prior to the start of their event.

Athletes must compete in their club uniform. All athletes must wear their current Athletics Victoria registered bibs (front & back). If an athlete has lost their bib number they must get a blank bib from the administration area.

To be eligible to compete at the Shield Final, an athlete must have a ranking in that event for their nominated age group, and have competed in four (4) completed rounds with a T&F or Max Package, or as a PAYG member.

To be eligible to compete in the steeplechase, athletes must have a ranking in their age group for this event. To be eligible to compete in the 2000m walk event, athletes must have a ranking in their age group for any walk event.

There will be NO invite athletes at Shield Final

It will be the team managers responsibility to scratch any Track athletes from their team that are not attending shield final 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. This will assist with minimising empty lanes due to non-attendance.

Track event substitutions can be made on the day at the administration area located next the Finish Line 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

Field event substitutions are to be made at the event site prior to the event star time. Athletes that are substituted in will compete in the same field time slot that the athlete withdrawing was entered in.

It is the team managers responsibility to ensure that any athlete substituted is eligible to compete, otherwise rule 18.4 will be enforced. All substitution forms will be available at administration. Please note: Athletes must be eligible to compete in the relevant event (AV Shield Rule 17.2)

Relays can be entered on the day. Forms can be filled out prior and brought to the administration area no later than 60mins prior to the race. Relay forms can be collected and filled at administration, they are also available online here. Relay substitutions can be made up to 45 minutes prior to event start time.

Club Helpers: 
Club helpers are vital to the running of all competitions, especially the Shield Final.

Club Helpers are required to sign in at the Cathy Freeman Room (located behind the main grandstand)

Field Implements: 

Athletes wishing to use their own implements must take them to the technical officer at least 2 hours before the scheduled starting time of the event.

Assembling Times: 

For all events, athletes must marshal at the event site 15 minutes prior to the event start time. Athletes must check the start list and timetable to review both start time and heat allocations. Athletes can view seeding allocation via scoreMobile by clicking HERE.

It is the athlete’s responsibility to assemble at their event at the correct time and location. Athletes who fail to do so may not be able to compete in the event.

Venue Information


Lakeside Stadium will have their Kiosk open which provides food and hot and cold beverages.

First Aid

St Johns Ambulance will be on site throughout the day.  They will be in the player runaway which is located halfway down the home straight.

Toilet Facilities

There are toilet facilities open around Lakeside Stadium.


Carparking will be limited in the area due to construction for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Please ensure you leave enough time to arrive and take note of parking fees.

Lakeside Drive Closure:

Lakeside Drive will be closed over the weekend between 7:00pm Friday to 7:00am Monday. All other roads will remain open, except for short term temporary closures due to construction work. Please leave sufficient time to arrive at Lakeside Stadium.

Looking After Lakeside Stadium

We are very grateful for the opportunity to compete at Lakeside Stadium.  Please ensure you:

  • Park only in designate parking bays
  • Leave the venue as you found it – clean and tidy
  • Do not litter, and use the bins provided
  • Inform athletes to leave the toilet blocks in a respectable state

Please note that dogs are not allowed inside Lakeside Stadium.

2019 Victorian Masters Track & Field Championships

The Victorian Masters Track & Field Championships will again take place at Tom Kelly Athletics Track in Doncaster in 2019. Athletes will compete in five year age groups (30- 34, 35-39, 40-44 etc) across the weekend.

Date: Saturday 23rd March & Sunday 24th March

Entries Close: 11:59am Monday 11th March – No late or on the day entries will be accepted.

Hold the PRESS

There are some changes to the event grid for High Velocity 3 on Saturday 16th February 2019 at Ringwood Athletics Centre.

A Womens and Mens Long Jump will be included in the program which will now commence at 12.45pm (previously 1.00pm) and the eligibility criteria for both Triple Jump and Long Jump has changed after recommendations from a number of coaches.

Eligibility – Long Jump and Triple Jump

The top 12 entered Women and Men will compete at HVC3 in both LJ and TJ.

Long Jump : Men – must have jumped 6m+ this season and Women – must have jumped 5m+ this season.

Triple Jump : Men  – must have jumped 13m+ this season and Women 11m+ this season

With the addition of Long Jump, the draft timetable has changed.
