The Melbourne Marathon and Half Marathon are on this Sunday the 14th of October, and once again it promises to be Australia’s premier event over the 42.2km and 21.1km distances.
The Marathon doubles as the Victorian Championship and AV President Jamie Strudley will be on hand on Sunday morning to present the medals to our champions on the hallowed turf of the MCG.
Liam Adams (Aths Essendon) and Sinead Diver (Sth Melbourne) are firm favourites to take out the Victorian Championships, with both also being strong contenders to win the race outright.
Other Victorians to watch out for include Nick Earl (Melb Uni), Xavier Chapman (St Kevins) and Jamie Cook (Bendigo Harriers) in the men’s marathon, while Tracey Austin (Malvern Harriers), Erchana Murray-Bartlett (Collingwood Harriers) and Alana Plymin (Sth Melbourne) will be vying for medals in the women’s race.
Overall entry numbers are up considerably on last year, so it is likely Melbourne will once again play host to Australia’s largest Marathon and Half Marathon on the same day.
