ANGLESEA Ekiden Relays Cancelled

Due to the increased risk of thunderstorms and high winds in excess of 50kmh during the scheduled event time on Saturday, the Anglesea Ekiden Relays will be cancelled.

AV has continued to consult with the BOM and with Parks Victoria who along with Surf Coast Shire closed part of the national park early this week due to erosion. The impending weather forecast, confirmed by the BOM today increases the risk to participants, officials and volunteers with up to 300 people out on the course at any one time when the weather cell is predicted to hit.   With the exposed nature of the course and terrain, putting members at risk for the duration of the event is not in the best interests of Athletics Victoria, our clubs, officials and participants.

We have spoken to the Anglesea Family Caravan Park to inform them of our decision. They are working with us on the matter and we will be informed tomorrow morning on cancellation options for those who have booked accommodation within the park. Further details will follow tomorrow.

We can confirm that Clubs will receive a full refund of all entry fees.

We would ask Clubs and all AV members to respect and acknowledge that a decision like this is not taken lightly.

XCR18 Anglesea Weather

The weather forecast for this Saturday in Anglesea predicts rain and possible thunderstorms throughout Saturday with high winds  of up to 40km/h.

If the weather forecast remains the same or worsens, then the Anglesea Ekiden Relays may be cancelled this weekend.

As you will be aware AV were forced to adjust the course routes earlier this week due to parkway closures on safety grounds by Surf Coast Shire and Parks Victoria.  Due to the risk factors associated with the terrain and surrounding woodland areas and with the high chance of thunderstorms we will continue to monitor the forecast and remain in contact with the Bureau of Meteorology.

Any decision about this weekend will be made by 4pm Thursday 16th August 2018  and Athletics Victoria will communicate to all members, Clubs, and Officials, by SMS, social media and the AV website.

If the forecast improves but remains a concern either before Saturday or on the day, then the program and distances may be amended  and members will be advise of any changes by SMS, social media and the AV website.

The safety of all competitors, officials, volunteers, and spectators is the priority and we will be back in contact by 4pm Thursday 16th August 2018.
