An absolute cracker of a day out at Burnley for the Half-Marathon & Junior 5km with record numbers in attendance!
Liam Adams (Athletics Essendon) was simply too strong for the rest of the field, finishing comfortably in first place, with a time of 1:04:54. Mitch Brown (Athletics Essendon) came in second with a time of 1:07:41, with Nicholas Earl (MUAC) rounding out the top three with a time of 1:08:00.
It was great to see Lisa Weightman (MUAC) come down and participate at an XCR event. From start to finish Lisa was in dominating form, looking poised and well positioned amongst a strong pack, to finish comfortably first with a time of 1:11:14. Virginia Moloney (Collingwood Harriers) crossed the line in second position with a time of 1:15:44, with Sophie Ryan (Old Xaverians) rounding out the top three with a time of 1:17:47.
In the Junior 5km it was Cody Shanhan (Western Athletics) who made it six from six for the XCR season. Looked strong out on the course and crossed the line with a time of 15:39, with Callen Goldsmith (Mornington Peninsula) finishing in second place with a time of 15:41. Lachlan Herd (Casey Cardinia) was just behind, finishing in third position with a time of 15:47.
Shania Murray (Diamond Valley) was in a class of her own, dominating the field to finish twenty-seconds ahead of Erkia Florez (Glenhuntly) with a time of 17:51 and 18:12 respectively. Emelia Eagling-Every (Athletics Essendon) rounded out the top three with a time of 18:58.

With over thirty on-the-day entries, it was a wonderful morning with perfect conditions for running a half-marathon. Those who came down to get some extra km’s under the belt for the Melbourne Marathon, we wish you all the best!
This Saturday is our last round of the XCR’17 season out at Princes Park. It’s where the championship can be won or lost and there will no doubt be some epic performances from every team involved! Good luck!
