Vale Norman Osborne – Service Details Updated

It is with deep sadness that Athletics Victoria announces the passing of Norman Osborne OAM.

Norman was a Life Member of St. Stephens Harriers Athletic Club, where he coached from 1962 to 1984. He was also a Life Member of Athletics Australia, and coached over 270 athletes to State and National Championships. In addition to his club coaching, Norman became an AIS coach, and went to the 1978 Commonwealth Games as the team coach.

Olympic athletes that developed under the tutelage of Norman included Richard Mitchell (400m), Don Hanly (400m hurdles), Michael Hillardt (1500m) and Margaret Crowley (1500m).

Norman was awarded his OAM for services to sport.

Our thoughts are with his close friends and family.

Vale Norm.

The Chapel Funeral of Norman Robert Osborne OAM will be held at Tobin Brothers Threads of Life Chapel, 294 Burwood Hwy, East Burwood (between Blackburn and Springvale Rds) on Friday (July 1) at 2.00 p. m.

The below articles outline Norman’s contributions and involvement in athletics:

Melton officially opens its Bridge Road Sports Precinct

The Bridge Road Sports Precinct has been opened and will become the official home for hockey and athletics within the region.

In partnership with the City of Melton, the $11.3 million project will feature a synthetic athletic track and two new hockey pitches, which will host clubs from a grassroots level, right up to Open Divisions.

The state-of-the-art facilities (which began construction in September last year) include four unisex change rooms, a first-aid area, kitchen, officials’ headquarters and a meeting place for important club fundraisers.

It’s a real boost for the Melton community, where participation rates within Victorian athletics, are undoubtedly expected to rise!
