September – Official’s Profile

Anna Spillane

Anna Spillane joined us at Blue Zone during this 2013-14 season. However she had started her athletics’ career well before then as a competitor specialising in the Heptathlon with Springvale-Nobel Park Athletic Club, in winter she enjoyed running Cross Country. She then worked for a number of years at her Little Athletics centre.

Anna is always so enthusiastic and friendly. She says she decided to officiate during Shield because she felt she had something to offer athletes and that she enjoys working and socialising with different personalities. She also enjoys watching the younger athletes taking responsibility for their performances.

During the Shield season she worked as a throws official and also worked at Throwers Club meets, which she loved and a highlight for her season was at the IAAF World Challenge when she officiated whilst Valerie Adams was throwing. However her biggest highlight was at a Throwers Club meet when Kim Mulhall qualified for the Commonwealth Games.

Anna would love to do anything on the track she especially feels she would make a good Starter’s Assistant as she says she is good at being bossy. When asked about her goals she replied that she had clear goals at the start of the season but by the end of the season they had completely changed. At this stage she wants to concentrate on supporting local athletes particularly the throwers. Her goal for five years is to have achieved the highest level in officiating.

We at Blue Zone have so enjoyed Anna’s company during the Track and Field season as no doubt the Throwers Club have and we hope she will continue with us for many years.
