There will be plenty to race for this Sunday at XCR’14 Round 8 – Burnley Half Marathon, with upsets still possible in both men’s and women’s open races.
Geelong Region’s Nick Wightman (32 points) has secured the open men’s individual title with Glenhuntly’s Toby Rayner and Ballarat Region’s Duer Yoa indicating they will not be on the Burnley start line this weekend.
This opens the door for Melbourne University’s Mark Kirwan (21 points) to be joint champion with Wightman if he can claim the win on the roads of Burnley.
In the women’s open grade South Melbourne’s Sinead Diver looks the most likely to take out the individual title after wins at Albert Park and Lake Wendouree has her on 36 points heading into the final individual event of the XCR’14 series.
Diver can run as low as seventh to tie or sixth to win outright on Sunday with Frankston pair Gemma Maini (29) and Sarah Klein (28) her closest competitors.
The race starts at 8:00am with early starts heading off at 7:45am.
