Glasgow stars set to shine at AV Knockout

With Zatopek: 10 2014 run and won attention now turns to round one of AV Knockout competition this Sunday 14 December.

Based off the new AV Rankings system Victoria’s best will compete across two venues in graded competition at Lakeside Stadium and Tom Kelly Athletics Track.

Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Eleanor Patterson will have her first serious hit out in Victoria (Lakeside Stadium) after her season opener late last month in Bankstown (NSW) at the Treloar Shield clearing 1.90m in the high jump before failed attempts at 1.95m.

The 1.90m clearance was Patterson’s best ever start to a season.

Fellow Glasgow Commonwealth Games team members Jess Gulli and Morgan Mitchell will go head-to-head in the women’s 400m at Lakeside Stadium.

2014 world juniors representative Joel Baden will be one to watch in the men’s high jump; the Old Melburnians athlete since jumping 2.17m in the final at Hayward Field (Oregon, USA) is one of the inform athletes early in the summer; taking his personal best to 2.29m back in October at the Associated Public Schools combined athletics meet.

Ringwood sprinter Danielle Shaw will resume her battle with Williamstown athlete Celeste Mucci in the women’s under 18 100m hurdles after the pair went one and two in the final at the Australian All Schools Track & Field Championships in Adelaide last weekend.

Emerging long jumper Henry Smith started the season at the APS Athletics Finals in mid-October with a distance of 6.72m ahead of Baden who jumped 6.67m.

Earlier in the year Smith missed out on the trip to Oregon for world juniors after facing injury and will be in the mix on Sunday.

After the first two rounds of AV Knockout are complete the Final will be a select meet based on the top 16 AV ranked performances in each event operating under ‘A’ and ‘B’ Finals on Saturday 7 March 2015 at Lakeside Stadium.

AV Knockout has been created to assist athlete development and provide an inclusive opportunity for all Athletics Victoria members to participate in a graded based competition for all ages, events and genders.

AV Knockout will operate under IAAF rules of competition.
